Viptela is a group of talented thought leaders committed to changing the networking playing field. Their goal is to streamline how users connect to applications, making it simple, reliable, and secure. Viptela's Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technology has allowed global companies to build carrier agnostic, policy-controlled and cost-effective WANs. They have successfully cut existing operating costs in the WAN by more than 50%, increased bandwidth 10x, and significantly improved security and uptime. It was a natural fit for Viptela to turn to SafeLogic when they needed FIPS 140-2 validated encryption quickly.
In May 2017, Cisco announced their intent to acquire Viptela for $610 million in cash and assumed equity awards. The acquisition closed August 1, 2017, with the product joining the Enterprise Routing team within the Networking and Security Business led by senior vice president David Goeckeler.
"Viptela's technology is cloud-first, with a focus on simplicity and ease of deployment while simultaneously providing a rich set of capabilities and scale. These principles are what today's customers demand," said Scott Harrell, senior vice president of product management for the Cisco Enterprise Networking Group. "With Viptela and Cisco, we will be able to deliver a comprehensive portfolio of comprehensive on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based SD-WAN solutions."
