OpenSSL End of Life for 1.0.2, 1.1.1, and 3.0

When an OpenSSL release reaches end of life, public security fixes and routine bug fixes stop. That can create real challenges for organizations that still rely on older OpenSSL versions in production environments.

  • OpenSSL 1.0.2 reached end of life on December 31, 2019.
  • OpenSSL 1.1.1 reached end of life on September 11, 2023.
  • OpenSSL 3.0 LTS is scheduled to reach end of support on September 7, 2026.

Many teams continue using these versions in legacy applications, embedded systems, validated cryptographic modules, or regulated environments where immediate upgrades are difficult. Without extended support, new CVEs, bug fixes, vulnerability scanner findings, and customer security questions can become harder to address.

For organizations that still depend on OpenSSL 1.0.2, OpenSSL 1.1.1, or OpenSSL 3.0, the next step is making sure there is a reliable support path in place.
