Nukona was established to innovate the security of enterprise mobility. At the time, organizations on the cutting edge were deploying Mobile Device Management products, hoping to contain the endpoints, but fighting a losing battle to the rapidly proliferating Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) movement. Nukona re-engineered the security solution, becoming one of the first companies to offer app-wrapping. This was a novel technology, allowing IT departments to apply granular security policies to individual work-specific apps, adding significant flexibility to both administrators and users. The startup also helped popularize the enterprise app store, an internal, curated selection of vetted and recommended apps for employees. The Solana Beach-based company was funded by the Citrix Start-up Accelerator, but was acquired in early 2012 by Symantec. The solutions built by Nukona can now be found in the comprehensive Symantec Mobility Suite from Broadcom, who acquired Symantec in 2019!
